Two out-of-town women were arrested at the local Home Goods store Saturday afternoon when, according to police, they were confronted by store employees who said the pair was trying to steal merchandise hidden in furniture they bought.

The incident unfolded about shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday at the Post Road East store when officers were called to the scene to quell a disturbance.

When officers arrived, they were told that Shenice Green, 28, of Bridgeport and Mierieke Blackwood, 24, of the Bronx, N.Y., had created the disturbance when store employees said they learned the pair was attempting to take unpaid merchandise they had hidden in an ottoman from the store.

As officers were taking the women into custody, they said Green resisted arrest.

Both women also initially gave false names to police, according to the report.

Green was charged with sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer and breach of peace.

Blackwood was charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

Green's bond was set at $1,000, while the bond for Blackwood was $500. Both women are scheduled to appear May 19 at state Superior Court in Norwalk.
