Luke Clerkin, 19, of Cross Highway, Westport, used spray paint to deface the skate park at South Benson Marina on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Clerkin told police he was trying to advertise a new business he is opening. According to the report, police said there was someone at the park who had been taking photographs that helped identify Clerkin, as well as the red and green paint on his shirt sleeve.

He was charged with second-degree criminal mischief and released on a promise to appear Feb. 27 in Bridgeport Superior Court.
