Moises Bonilla, 34, of Bridgeport, was charged with driving under the influence early Saturday when officers found him asleep in his vehicle -- its engine running -- at the intersection of Post Road East and the Sherwood Island Connector, police said.
Bonilla was wearing his safety belt, the keys were in the ignition, the engine was idling and the vehicle was still in gear, police said. When Bonilla woke up, his speech was slurred and an officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, according to the report.
He failed a field sobriety test, police added.
Bonilla also took a breath test, and according to police, the results were: 0.2018 and 0.1906; the legal level is 0.08.
He posted a $1,000 bond and was released for a Jan. 31 appearance in Norwalk Superior Court.
