A Westport police officer was dragged by a larceny suspect's scooter Monday morning as the officer questioned the man about stealing an empty beer keg.

The officer, however, was not seriously injured, police said.

Brian Bresnan, 42, of Edlie Street in Norwalk, was charged with sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer and reckless endangerment in connection with the incident.

Officer Mark Pocius spotted Bresnan driving a scooter with an empty keg that was believed to have been stolen about 8:45 a.m. Monday from the Black Duck Cafe on Riverside Avenue.

Pocius stopped Bresnan on Ferry Lane, and as the officer was questioning the suspect, Bresnan attempted to drive away, police said. Pocius was dragged a short distance by Bresnan's scooter before it fell over in the street. Both Pocius and Bresnan had only minor scrapes and injuries from the incident, police said.

Bresnan was held on a $10,000 bond and will be arraigned Tuesday in Norwalk Superior Court.
