WESTPORT — Sherman Miles allegedly smashed the window of a Westport home on Main Street last October and stole about $4,000 of jewelry and electronics. Police said the 58-year-old was caught on surveillance video pawning the stolen items the day after the robbery.
A detective tracked the stolen jewelry and electronics to a Stratford pawn shop. Miles was arrested after the detective found him walking toward a homeless shelter on Jesup Road on Aug. 2.
Police charged the resident of Barns Avenue in New Haven with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny. Both charges are class D felonies, and each carries a sentence of up to five years if convicted.
Miles’ bail was set at $175,000 and he was to appear in court on Friday.
