Westport police, called on Sunday to assist state troopers, stopped a Stamford motorcyclist who police said was among a group of bikers traveling at more than 100 mph on Interstate 95.
Local police pursued some of the motorcyclists who got off the highway off Exit 18, police said. When Officer Kevin Smith located three of the motorcyclists, they sped away and started weaving through traffic passing vehicles over the double-yellow traffic line, police said.
Smith eventually was able to stop one of the bikers, 33-year-old William Brown. He was charged with disobeying the signal of an officer, reckless driving and operating an unregistered vehicle.
Brown was released on a written promise to appear Oct. 31 in Norwalk Superior Court and turned over to State Police.
