A woman who police said abandoned her car after crashing into a stone wall off Greens Farms Road late Tuesday faces charges for leaving her children unattended at home while on an errand to buy cigarettes as well as for the accident.
The car, in which the driver-side air bag was deployed by the force of the collision, was registered in the name of Susanne Gravelle of Marvin Place, police said.
Officers went to Gravelle's home, and found her there, with visible cuts and bruises on her face that she suffered in the accident, according to the report.
Gravelle, 39, said that the crash occurred when she had gone out to buy a pack of cigarettes, but had left her two sleeping children alone while she went on the errand.
She was taken to Norwalk Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Gravelle later was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor for leaving the children home along, and failure to drive right and evading responsibility in connection with the accident.
Bond was set at $5,000 and she was scheduled to appear Jan. 23 at Norwalk Superior Court.
