A 34-year-old woman from the Southport section of Fairfield was charged Saturday with risk of injury to her young son Saturday after police said she left him alone in a car in frigid temperatures while she got a tan at a Post Road East salon.

Kristen Becker, of Arbor Drive in Fairfield, left her preschool-age by himself in the car and told him to remain there Saturday afternoon while she patronized Palm Beach Tan at 1854 Post Road East, police said.

After Becker entered a tanning booth, the boy -- who was not wearing a jacket despite temperatures in the 20s -- wandered into the salon about 5 minutes later, according to the report When Becker was told by salon employees that the child had entered the business, Becker said that she had told him to stay in the car, police said.

She was taken into custody at her home on a charge of risk of injury to a child. She was later released after posting a $2,500 bond.

Becker is scheduled to appear Feb. 11 in Norwalk Superior Court.
