Phillip Rivera, 26, of Bridgeport, was arrested Tuesday by Bridgeport police in connection with a warrant from Westport police for Rivera's arrest on several local burglary charges.
At the time of his arrest on those charges, he was unable to post bond and was transported the next morning by Westport officers to Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment, according to police. He was turned over to judicial marshals and while one of the marshals was searching Rivera's sneaker, he found a small tear in the sidewall, police said. Inside the sidewall tear, the marshal said he found five wax-paper bags that contained a powder substance. The substance was tested and found to be heroin, police said. An arrest warrant was then applied for and granted.
Rivera was also charged with possession of a controlled substance. He was released on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear March 28 in Norwalk Superior Court.
