A Westport man was arrested after his car drove off the roadway into woods near the intersection of Greens Farms and Westway roads early Sunday.

Declan O'Keefe, 27, of Greens Farms Road was charged with operating under the influence, failure to obey a stop sign and failure to carry an insurance card.

Police received a report that a car had gone off the road about 3:30 a.m. Sunday and landed in a wooded area.

Upon arrival, officers found O'Keefe trying to back his vehicle out of the woods. They also detected "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from O'Keefe," according to the report.

"O'Keefe stated he was unable to perform field sobriety tests," according to the report and "admitted being intoxicated."

Charged at the scene, O'Keefe was released on a promise to appear March 20 in Norwalk Superior Court.
