The Congregation for Humanistic Judaism will hold an open house at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, in Bedford Middle School, 88 North Ave.

Children are invited to attend a developmentally appropriate Sunday school class at no charge, during which they will be treated to a shofar demonstration to ring in the High Holidays. Classes will conclude at 11:45 a.m.

Parents may remain with their children until they are comfortable and then attend the open house, which includes brunch, meeting members and learning about the programs and activities of the congregation and the basic tenets of Humanistic Judaism.

In addition to the Sunday School, the congregation has a full calendar of activities for adults, including Jewish holiday celebrations, weekend evening and Sunday morning programs, discussion groups and a book group.

The CHJ Teen Mitzvah Club will collect school supplies and cereal boxes at the open house and assemble backpacks for clients of the Mercy Learning Center in Bridgeport. Donations will be accepted.

The public is asked to confirm attendance by calling 203-226-5451. Visit www.humanisticjews.org for information.
