Six computer courses covering different functions and skills are being offered in March at the Westport Center for Senior Activities.

Space is limited, the center said, and pre-registration and prepayment are required. Instructors are both knowledgeable and patient, the center said,

The courses are:

Facebook: An overview of the social networking site includes how to create a personal account and profile, set privacy settings, find friends, share photos and more. The course will be hands-on and limited to four students. Wednesday, March 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost: $30. Instructor: Alan Weaver.

PowerPoint: An introductory course on the basics of creating a presentation, flyer or tribute. Friday, March 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost: $25. Instructor: Alan Weaver.

Intro to eBay: An introduction to the online auction site will cover buying and selling, including how to seek out merchandise, determine a seller's reputation, how to set up an account and how to bid. There is no hands-on component. Monday, March 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost: $25. Instructor: Alan Weaver.

Introduction to the Internet: The course covers how to reach the Internet and visits to popular sites, including Mapquest, weather sites and YouTube, plus basic techniques in searching using Google and other search engines. Three consecutive Mondays, March 12, 19, and 26 from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost: $45. Instructor: Joan Singer.

Working with scanners: The course covers scanning photos and converting them to digital images that can be retouched, emailed or archived. The basics of retouching will be demonstrated. Participants should bring 12 to 15 photos. Wednesday, March 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost: $30. Instructor: Alan Weaver.

Photoshop Elements: The course covers the basics of enhancing photos by improving contrast, removing red eye, cropping and creating artistic effects. Experience with the mouse is necessary. Monday, March 19; Wednesday, March 21 and Thursday, March 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost: $65. Instructor: Alan Weaver.
