An elderly man was located less than two hours after he was reported missing today thanks to the effectiveness of a message sent to residents via the Code Red system.

Westport police said the man, an 82-year-old who suffers from Alzheimer's, was waiting in a vehicle parked at Westport Town Hall while his wife was inside conducting business. He reportedly wandered off and his wife could not locate him after a quick search of the area.

Police responded to the scene with a canine to conduct a search for the missing person. And a message was broadcast to residents through the Code Red sytem, alerting them that the man was missing.

According to police, a woman who received the message on her cell phone while driving observed the man sitting on a nearby stone wall, in the area of the dog park on the Baron's Property North on North Compo Road, near Main Street. The man was then transported back to town hall, evaluated by Westport EMS and then reunited with his wife.

Police noted that the man was missing for approximately 90 minutes in 45-degree temperatures.
