Mohonk Children's Services in Westport said it is collecting clothing, backpacks and household items to send to the Philippines, which was devastated by a typhoon last month.

In addition to clothing suitable for the islands' tropical climate and backpacks, the agency is soliciting sneakers, cookware and other kitchen items, plus hand tools.

Items may be dropped off to Mohonk by appointment at 66 Weston Road, Mohonk officials said. Items also may be picked up for several days after Christmas. The agency said it must deliver all goods to a New Jersey port by Dec. 31 to get free shipping. Mohonk officials said donations are tax deductibe. It does not want winter clothing or electric items.
