First Church of Christ Scientist has planned a classical music recital on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 6, to celebrate the installation of a new church organ.
The new Allen church organ replaces an instrument installed when the church was built in 1981, recital organizers said.
The program includes works by Bach, Handel and Corelli, plus the preimier of Jordan's composition "Gracious Savior, We Now Greet You."
The recital had been planned earlier this year, but was postponed while Jordan, the church's organist, recovered from a spinal injury sustained in the May 17 derailment of a Metro-North Railroad train in Bridgeport.
Bach works listed on the program include "Passacaglia and Fugue" in C minor; "Fantasy and Fugue" in C minor; and "Laudamus Te" from "The Mass" in B minor.
Also on the program are Handel's "Let the Bright Seraphim" and Corelli's Sonata for Trumpet in D major.
Jordan's "Gracious Savior comprises variations on a Bach chorale for soprano, organ and trumpet, according to the program.
No tickets are required and ample parking is available at the church.
