The new musical, “Chicken Dance,” will be the next presentation in the Westport Country Playhouse’s Family Festivities Series.

The show will be performed at 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday in the theater, 25 Powers Court.

The presentation is based on the book by Tammi Sauer, and illustrated by Dan Santat, which among its citations won the National Parenting Publications Gold Award. The show is recommended for children in kindergarten through second grade, according to playhouse publicity.

The musical features Marge and Lola, two barnyard chickens, “on a mission to win the barnyard talent contest — first prize of two tickets to see the great Elvis Poultry in concert. But first, they must present a performance that will score higher than a flock of very talented ducks who seem to have the contest locked up,” according to a description provided by the playhouse.

A pre-show program begins an hour before each performance, at noon and 3 p.m., in the theater’s Sheffer Studio. The interactive theater workshop features activities inspired by the show. Playhouse officials advise, however, that no new participants will be admitted more than 15 minutes after the program has begun.

Tickets, costing $20, are required for everyone in the “Chicken Dance” audience. For more information or tickets, call 203-227-4177, visit www.westportplayhouse.org or go the box office.
