Northeast Community Cycles, a nonprofit that refurbishes donated bicycles and gives them to needy children and adults, will sponsor its 2nd annual Fall Foliage Bike4Bikes Charity Bike Ride on Sept. 28 at Sherwood Island State Park.
Biking participants can choose from three routes through Fairfield County -- 20 miles, 75K (47 miles) and 100K (62 miles). All of the routes begin and end at the Westport park. Each route will include two rest stops where water and snacks will be available for riders. A lunch of chili, cornbread and pie will be served after the ride.
Registration is $49 for adults and $35 for children under 18 years of age. Participating cyclists will receive a free Bike4Bikes t-shirt at registration.
Signups on the day of the event will be from 7 to 9 a.m., rain or shine, at the park.
Proceeds from the event will benefit NCC's programs to fix up bicycles for donation, along with helmets, to needy children and adults around the region.
Agencies that have benefited from NCC's bike donations include: Homes With Hope, Gillespie Center and A Better Chance, all in Westport; Operation Hope in Fairfield; the McGivney Center and Cardinal Shehan Center in Bridgeport, and the Yerwoood Center in Stamford.
