The Westport-Weston Chamber of Commerce will host a First Citizen Awards Banquet and Salute to outstanding current and future leaders in Westport and Weston on Tuesday, May 21. The event, which will include a cocktail hour, silent auction and dinner, will take place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Inn at Longshore, 260 Compo Road S.
First Citizen honorees include Barbara Butler, Westport director of human services since 1989, and Kenneth C. Edgar, retired attorney and Weston Citizen of the Year for 2012. Staples High School seniors Jacqueline Prager Devine and Corey Werner, and Weston High School senior Claire Cook and junior Matthew Proctor will each receive Future First Citizen Awards.
Award recipients were chosen by each town's first selectman and high school principal, as well as the chamber's board of directors on a variety of criteria, among them being an admirable community leader, a creative entrepreneur or an exemplary citizen.
The Future First Citizens honorees, a boy and girl from each high school, were chosen based on demonstrating the above qualities and positioning themselves as future leaders of Westport and Weston.
Individuals, businesses and community organizations can support the event, the proceeds of which will go to the chamber, by becoming a sponsor or an underwriter or making an in-kind donation. They may also buy individual tickets or a table or donate an auction item worth at least $100.
Tickets cost $100. Early registration is $90 before Tuesday, April 30, or $85 for students.
