Carriage house colonial offers space, views of Sound

Back around 1910 when the structure at 190 Hillspoint Road was first built, it was simply a carriage house for another home. Today, it is a regal colonial house in its own right with stunning water views and 4,112 square feet of living space.
The house sits at the corner of Burnham Hill, directly across the street from the Sherwood Mill Pond Preserve and just about a block away from Mill Cove Beach. It is easy walking distance to Positano's Waterfront Italian Restaurant and Elvira's Old Mill Market and Deli, and Compo Beach and Longshore Club Park are only about a mile away.
While most houses that sit in prime water communities have postage stamp-sized yards, this house enjoys a larger-than-usual third of an acre property.
It has a gate and a white picket fence.
During the renovation, care was taken to preserve original doors, beams and bricks. The current owner used some of the beams to create benches in the mud room. Throughout the first floor there are gracefully arched doorways and detailed millwork.
The exterior of the house is a combination of red brick and white clapboard, which is enhanced by professional landscaping, including a number of hydrangea bushes.
Inside, there are many interesting features from the river rock surround of the fireplace in the den to the onyx tile backsplash of the kitchen. There are three fireplaces in all. The one in the formal living room has a polished onyx surround and a white wood mantle. The third one, in the second floor master bedroom suite, has a polished slate surround and a white wood mantle.
In the living room, there is attractive millwork on the same wall that houses the fireplace. The ceilings have a coffered affect. Special shutters made of reclaimed wood decorate the interior side of the windows in this room.
The kitchen, dining room and den are open to each other. The kitchen has counters topped in two different kinds of granite. There are exposed beams on the ceiling of the den, which also features two French doors and a transom to a red brick patio and the backyard.
