William Buckbee defeated Mary Jane Lundgren in the race for the state’s 67th House District, which includes New Milford.

“We ran a clean race and we were up front and honest with it,” Buckbee said. “That resonated through the entire campaign.”

In addition to Buckbee and Lundgren, Green Party candidate Cynthia Day also sought to fill the seat vacated by Cecelia Buck-Taylor, a two-term Republican who didn’t seek re-election.

Lundgren, a Democrat who sits on the New Milford Town Council, campaigned on social issues, saying that she wants to improve paid family leave in Connecticut.

Buckbee, a member of the New Milford Sewer Commission and active volunteer, said he would focus on stabilizing the state’s budget by attracting new businesses.

Day campaigned on addressing Connecticut’s growing opioid epidemic.
