A brush fire that erupted Tuesday afternoon in the area of Ferry Lane East and Manitou Road was quickly extinguished by firefighters before spreading.

The blaze burned an area of about 10 by 20 feet in a wooded area not far from the road, according to the fire report.

The fire was quickly extinguished by Engine 4 from the Saugatuck Fire Station.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.

Noting that the day's fire danger was rated moderate, fire officials used the incident to remind the public to exercise caution with potential sources of ignition such as cigarettes and open burning.
