WESTPORT — A Bridgeport woman allegedly stole jewelry from a Westport residence she had been hired to clean.

A Westport resident alerted police Sept. 19 that a $1,000 ring had been stolen out of the master bedroom of a Marion Road home. The only people with access to the master bedroom during the time frame of the theft was the cleaning woman and her assistant, identified as Bridgeport resident Margarita Mendez Gutierres. Westport Police deemed Gutierres a suspect and secured a warrant to search her home, where they found the stolen ring on Sept. 22.

On Oct. 20, Gutierres, turned herself in at police headquarters on an active arrest warrant. She was charged with fifth-degree larceny and released after posting a $5,000 court-stipulated bond. Gutierres, 39, is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Court Oct. 30.
