Books for Zim, a project of Congregation for Humanistic Judaism, has collected more than 1,600 pounds of books for delivery to village schools in Zimbabwe through a partnership with U.S.-Africa Children's Fellowship.

Relly Coleman, a congregation member, founded the project in 2005 after a family trip to Zimbabwe to celebrate the 90th birthday of her mother-in-law, Mabel Coleman.

To date, it has shipped thousands of pounds of books to Zimbabwe, according to a release.

The initiative, which in the past focused on collecting textbooks and library books, is currently seeking calculators, soccer balls and toys and games appropriate for schools, the release states.
