Mother Nature turned the page from a wintry storm to spring-like balminess Saturday, just in time for the start of the annual Winter Book Sale at the Westport Public Library.

It was the opening day of the four-day event, and more than 10,000 books, from fiction, children's literature and travel titles, to other media like video, records and magazines, were offered for purchase.

"This sale is second in popularity only to our summer sale," said volunteer coordinator Suzy Hooper. "All of the books are donated and collected throughout the year. Funds support programming at the library."

The sale continues Sunday from 1-5 p.m., Monday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. (everything is half price) and Tuesday 9 a.m.-noon (anything left is free for the taking).
