An owner of a longtime family-owned auto repair business faces charges of removing an underground storage tank without the required permission at the Post Road East business last year.

Giuseppe D. Boccanfuso, 29, of Fairfield, turned himself in Monday at Police Department headquarters to face charges in connection with what police called the unauthorized tank removal from the property of Boccanfuso Brothers at 940 Post Road East last April.

The Fire Department and the state Fire Marshal's Office assisted in the investigation, police said.

Boccanfuso was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and abatement of fire hazard.

He was released on a promise to appear on the charges March 13 in Norwalk Superior Court.
