Call it shuffle diplomacy.

The "Ambassador of Bhangra" had a mission Saturday night in Westport: Get the place dancing.

Mission accomplished.

DJ Rekha, her cohorts Gobind Singh and Dave Sharma, and a couple of go-go dancers commanded the Levitt's temporary stage on Jesup Green for a pulsing show of Bhangra music, dancing and visuals that kept the audience on their feet in a celebration of Indian culture.

The Mumbai Times restaurant joined the fun, setting up a buffet of Indian food on the sidelines.

Named one of the most influential South Asians by Newsweek and "One of Ten Women of Downtown Music" by New York magazine, Rekha is among the first DJs to merge classic Bhangra and Bollywood sounds, according to her biography.
