During the weeklong event, eighth-grader Ben Goldstein and the school's Blue-Gold Council sold $1,090 worth of Autism Speaks wristbands to benefit Autism Speaks, a New York City-based autism science and advocacy organization. They also encouraged students to wear blue clothing items, according to a school district news release.
Iconic structures around the world including the Empire State Building and the Sydney Opera House joined in the awareness campaign.
