Ayckbourn's 'Things We Do for Love' next at Westport Country Playhouse

Alan Ayckbourn's romantic comedy, "Things We Do for Love," takes the stage Tuesday, Aug. 19, through Sunday, Sept. 7 at the Westport Country Playhouse.
In the play, directed by Tony Award nominee John Tillinger, fastidious Barbara's orderly, but solitary world is thrown into chaos when the arrival of her longtime friend Nikki and her fiancÃ© ignites unexpected and violent passions, according to playhouse publicity for the production.
"I'm so happy to present the work of two men who have given countless evenings of joy and laughter to our audiences over the years: playwright Alan Ayckbourn and director John Tillinger," Mark Lamos, the playhouse's artistic director, said in the statement.
The cast includes Geneva Carr who has appeared in four Ayckbourn plays at the playhouse, and Matthew Greer, who was in Broadway's "Cabaret," "Seminar," "The Real Thing," "The Judas Kiss," and the National Tour of "Spamalot." Sarah Manton and Michael Mastro, also with Broadway credits, are also in the cast.
Tillinger was nominated for a Tony Award in Arthur Miller's "The Price" with Eli Wallach, "Inherit the Wind" with Charles Durning and George C. Scott, and "Loot" with Joseph Maher.
Ayckbourn is in his 55th year as a playwright. He has written 78 plays and his work has been translated into more than 35 languages, is performed on stage and television throughout the world, and has won many awards. In recent years, he has been inducted into American Theatre's Hall of Fame, received the 2010 Critics' Circle Award for Services to the Arts, and became the first British playwright to receive both Olivier and Tony Special Lifetime Achievement Awards.
The performance schedule for "Things We Do for Love" is Tuesdays at 8 p.m., Wednesdays at 2 and 8 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 3 and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. The play has mature content and is appropriate for an audience 16 years old and over.
Single tickets are $30; educators and students are eligible for 50 percent discounts. On the day of a performance, senior rush tickets are also available at half price.
