The threat of inclement weather Thursday forced postponement of the annual Art About Town street party.
The event, organized by the Westport Downtown Merchants Association, is now scheduled for next Thursday, May 30, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., along Main Street and other downtown venues.
The colorful party will feature music, art demonstrations, street performers and food and drinks.
The street party kicks off a downtown-wide celebration of art involving about 80 shops and restaurants displaying original works by 84 artists in a juried exhibit, which is scheduled to continue through Sunday, June 16.
During the rescheduled street fest, the Shiny Lapel Trio will play outside Bobby Q's BBQ & Grill at 42 Main St. The Connecticut "trio" -- which is, in fact, a quartet -- plays a variety of styles and was featured on an ESPN Monday Night Football broadcast last December.
Other performances include the quirky ukulele group The Fabuleles, the Westport Weston Family Y Dance Company, the Neighborhood Studios Conservatory Dance Ensemble, Studio 44 Dancers and the Music Theater of Connecticut's Junior Company performing songs from "Dr. Doolittle."
Stilt-walkers, street performers and costumed "beasts" will meander up and down Main Street, while numerous artists demonstrate their skills and explain their process and inspiration.
Food and drink will be available for purchase at outdoor, pop-up cafes along Main Street.
Representatives of local nonprofit organizations will be on hand to discuss their services and missions.
