Liberty Army & Navy plans to close its Norwalk store at the end of March and consolidate the business at its Westport Store on Post Road East.

Owners Iris and Bob Rose said a sale is under way at the Norwalk store at 565 Connecticut Ave. to reduce merchandise there, and they plan to close it March 31. The company sells a variety of name-brand footwear and clothing at both sites.

Factors in closing the Norwalk store, the owners said, are economic conditions, rent and the belief customers could be better served by consolidating operations in the Westport store at 1439 Post Road East.

The owners said each store has three full-time employees, but they were uncertain what would happen to the company's workforce.

Liberty opened the Post Road store about 35 years ago, owners said in an email, and the Norwalk store nearly 30 years ago.

The owners said the Norwalk store has marked down prices on brands that include Timberland, Dunham and Bates footwear, plus High Tec, Carhartt, Under Armour and White Sierra attire.
