Higgins, Armstrong wed

Clarinda Higgins and William G. Armstrong Jr. were married at Compo Beach in Westport on July 8. For the ceremony, the couple waded into the surf to read aloud in unison the vows they wrote for one another.

The bride, who retains her name, is the daughter of the late Beverly Moore Quady and Bradley C. Higgins.

The groom is the son of Margaret Armstrong of Berea, Ohio, and the late William G. Armstrong.

Ms. Higgins, known as Rindy, is a marine educator and president of the Norwalk Community Chorale, and a member of the Westport Shellfish Commission. A native of Worcester, Mass., she has been a resident of the Westport area for 40 years.

Mr. Armstrong is the national communications director for Operation Sail, Inc., the tall ship organization. A native of Cleveland, he has worked as a public affairs executive in Washington D.C., and New York.

He served 30 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve, retiring with the rank of captain.

The couple, who met online seven years ago, resides in the Saugatuck area of Westport.
