DANBURY -- Western Connecticut State University police are investigating an armed robbery at a campus dormitory Thursday night.
WestConn police officer Frank DeLorenzo told The News-Times that the armed robbery took place at Pinney Hall, which is located on the school's westside campus on Mill Plain Road.
The dormitory was evacuated and police continued to search the building as of 10 p.m. Thursday.
WestConn police would provide no details late Thursday regarding the kind of weapon used, what was taken or whether the suspect is a WestConn student. A description of the suspect was not available.
Although the school was never officially on lockdown, DeLorenzo said police did block off the area surrounding Pinney Hall.
WestConn police, Danbury police and the state police all responded to the scene.
The campus community was alerted through the university's emergency notification system via text message, e-mail, the school's Web site and other electronic means.
