On Thursday, June 25 at 6 p.m., the Westport Parks and Recreation Department will open the 40th annual age group track and field season with the first of six scheduled weekly meets to be held at Staples High School. The program will meet every Thursday through July 30 and will offer competition in a variety of age appropriate events for both boys and girls.

An entry fee of $24 for Westport residents and $40 for non-residents will be charged for the entire series of meets. Additionally, participants have the option of choosing to pay a weekly fee of $6 or $10 per meet for residents and non-residents respectively instead of the series program fee.

Competition in each event will be in the following 10 age groups for both boys and girls: age three-and-under, every age year starting with age four-thru-11, and ages 12 and over.

The following events will be contested for all age groups at each meet: 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash, 400 meter run, long jump, softball throw, Frisbee throw, and, if time permits, 4 X 100 meter relay. Additionally, the high jump may be contested as a non-competitive event for all age groups.

Laddie Lawrence will direct this program and will be assisted by other Staples coaches, athletes and alumni.
