A representative of a nonprofit group that fights hunger in Fairfield County will give a presentation to the Westport-Weston AARP Chapter on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 28.
The program is planned at 1 p.m. at the Westport Center for Senior Activities, 21 Imperial Ave., Westport.
A speaker from the Norwalk group Community Plates will describe how the organization tries to collect surplus, nutritious food before it is disposed, AARP said in a news release.
Community plates reports nearly 100,000 Fairfield County residents start the day unsure if they will have food for an evening meal, AARP said.
The organization uses volunteers to collect good food before it is discarded by restaurants, grocers, bakers and other sources and bring it to a distribution center.
