Westport's Sasco Brook Pollution Abatement Committee and the Fairfield County Hunt Club have received awards from a southwestern Connecticut conservation group.

The Southwest Conservation District, which includes Fairfield and New Haven counties, presented the awards at its 66th annual awards meeting.

The Sasco Brook committee was honored for its 2011 plan to reduce the leaching of nutrients into Long Island Sound. The initiative focused on septic and yard waste on public and private land, the conservation district said.

The Hunt Club was honored for a water-quality project by its manager, Carla Nelson, that focused on horse-waste management.
