WESTPORT — This time Santa Claus came in by boat, but the hundreds of people attending the annual tree lighting in Saugatuck Sunday evening were simply glad to see him.

For the seventh year in a row Gault Family Companies hosted the event in the plaza outside Saugatuck Sweets, complete with carolers, free food and a fire pit for fresh-made s’mores.

“It’s just been a lot of fun for the community,” said Jim Donaher, one of the principals of the company.

“We usually get around 100 people,” he said, as the event has always been held on a weekday, but this time there were many more in attendance.
