Accidents force closing of I-95 lanes
Updated 2:11 pm, Friday, June 16, 2017
A pair of accidents and emergency road work caused big delays on I-95 Friday afternoon.
The first accident closed two southbound lanes on I-95 in Norwalk and Westport. The accident, reported at 12:25 p.m., shut down the left and center lanes between Exits 17 and 16. The lanes reopened about an hour later.
At least two-vehicles were involved in the accident.
Traffic started to slow near Exit 19 in Fairfield with speeds reduced in the single numbers for nearly seven miles.
Once past the accident scene, drivers found that the left, southbound lane is closed near Exit 13 in Darien because of emergency road work near the median barrier. The lane reopened after DOT left the area around 1:30 p.m.
At 12:53 p.m., the state Department of Transportation said travel time between Route 8 in Bridgeport and Route 7 was 66 minutes; without traffic or an accident, it would take about 15 minutes.
And at 1:03 p.m., another two-vehicle accident shut down two northbound lanes on I-95 between Exits 8 and 9 in Stamford.
That crash caused big delays to Rye, N.Y.
Nearly an hour later lanes reopened, but there remained residual delays.
