SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Thursday's Little League World Series game between Westport and Sammamish, Wash., has been postponed because of rain. The game was rescheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. at Lamade Stadium. It will be televised by ESPN.

The loser of the game will be eliminated, while the winner will advance to Saturday's U.S. championship game against Chula Vista, Calif.

The postponement was officially announced at 7:40 p.m., approximately 80 minutes after rain and lightning delayed the Panama and Mexico game. The international elimination game was completed, with Mexico winning 4-2 in seven innings.

Westport manager Tim Rogers was not pleased with what he viewed as a quick decision to postpone, saying, "I'm just surprised they postponed it. They're worried about the curfew, which is midnight, which I get. But it seems like we could've tried."

The postponement also will have a direct effect on the availability of certain pitchers for Thursday.

Since Westport pitcher Alex Reiner threw under 35 pitches on Wednesday, he's allowed to return to the mound Friday. Sammamish, however, will not be allowed to bring back its No. 2 starter, Jack Matheson, according to Brian McClintock, director of media relations at the LLWS. Matheson was required two days rest after throwing 52 pitches on Tuesday, but the rainout will not count as a day off. Jacob Dahlstrom, Sammamish's No. 1 starter, will also still be unavailable.
