At one time it was the only road through town. Hundreds of years later, Kings Highway North is one of dozens of streets in Westport. Yet its history remains poignant to this day.

To connect with that link to the past, Westport historian Allen Raymond recently led an annual walking tour through Westport's Kings Highway North Area Historic District. Eighteen history buffs met at the parade ground at Old Hill Road and Kings Highway North, originally the only road through the town, and followed that road on a tour of historic sites, including a stop at the site of the tavern where George Washington once spent the night.

The tour was sponsored by the Westport Historical Society.
