The most trusted voters rights organization in America -- the League of Women Voters -- is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. In its honor, the Connecticut chapter is hosting a night of laughter on Wednesday, Nov. 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Westport Woman's Club, featuring author, comedienne, and college professor Gina Barreca.

Men and women alike are captivated by Barreca's funny and insightful observations. She has appeared on 20/20, 48 Hours, NPR, the BBC, The Today Show, CNN, Joy Behar, and Oprah to discuss gender, power, politics, and humor. Her most recent book is It's Not That I'm Bitter: How I Learned to Stop Worrying About Visible Panty Lines and Conquered the World (St. Martin's, 2009/ppb. 2010).

Barreca also writes for the Chronicle of Higher Education, blogs for Psychology Today, has a weekly column in the Hartford Courant and a monthly column for Principal Leadership.

Barreca has degrees from Dartmouth College, Cambridge University and the City University of New York, and is professor of English and feminist theory at the University of Connecticut.
