Summer programs at Westport Historical Society

The Westport Historical Society, 25 Avery Place, will conduct the following summer programs in August:
"Green Thumbs ... From the Ground Up," Aug. 8 to 12.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about how things are grown and the earth under their feet, create crafts, stories and drama and visit a local farm and farmer's market.
They will also prepare fresh snacks and play games while making new friends.
The program, which will be directed by Jen Devine, founder of Mocking Bird Arts, will take place 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
"Pirate Kings and Queens ... And the Water Around Us," Aug. 15 to 19
Participants will examine oceans and rivers through acting, art and adventure.
The program, directed by Devine, will take place 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
"And All That Jazz ... Explore Music from Debussy to Dub-Step," Aug. 22 to 26.
Participants will make a different instrument each day using recycled materials.
Each day will have a different music era focus: classical, jazz, Latin, rock 'n' roll, rap and dub-step with a guest performer workshop.
The program, which will be directed by Jeannie Walker-Wright, principal harpist, will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Cost of these programs is $250 per week, $225 for WHS members.
