An expert on sleep disorders will discuss how sleep patterns change as people age at a meeting of the Westport-Weston Chapter of AARP Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 15. Medical authorities estimate more than half of people over 65 have sleep problems, ranging from insomnia to snoring to restless leg syndrome, the AARP chapter said.

The Westport Weston Family Y is offering several special children's programs busy during Feb. 20-24 winter breaks for the Westport and Weston public schools. Designed for children ages 4 through 8, the "Hafaday" sessions include a lesson and free-swim period each day; arts and crafts and gym time, the Y said. A full-day "Vacation Special" program is planned for children in Kindergarten through sixth grade and features a variety of activities, the Y said.

In recognition of national Heart Awareness Month, the Westport Weston Health District is offering two cholesterol and blood pressure screenings in February. The rapid test requires only a few blood drops from a finger stick to generate a total lipid profile (Cholesterol, Triglyceride, LDL, and HDL) and Glucose levels.

A Yale University sociologist will speak about the market for human eggs and sperm during the 4th annual Darwin Day Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Inn at Longshore. The Medical Market for Eggs and Sperm, and her research has focused on gender, markets, medicine and genetics, dinner organizers said.

Place sliders on bottom piece of foaccia, evenly divide and top with remaining sauce, one slice of bacon and divide the arugula evenly between the burgers, add top piece of focaccia.

JoyRide Cycling Studio in Westport is organizing a team to compete at SpinOdyssey, an indoor cycling event planned in Norwalk in March to raise money for the fight against breast cancer, the studio said. Proceeds will be divided between the American Cancer Society's breast cancer research and Norwalk Hospital's Wittingham Cancer Center, according to the release.

The play, a comedy by playwright Paul Osborn that portrays a family living too close for comfort, tells of four sisters who live in the same town yet keep secrets to preserve the family peace. Osborn (1901-1988) was an American playwright and screenwriter best known for writing the film adaptations of "East of Eden," "South Pacific," "The Yearling" and "Sayonara." The play is about a former regional stage manager who keeps house for his West End actress-wife while amusing himself with sexual adventures until a psychiatrist's intervention destroys his marriage.

Set in 19th century Dublin, the heartbreaking Victorian drama chronicles the courage of woman who, for 30 years, took the identity of a man in order to gain respectable work at Morrison's, an opulent, yet intimate hotel. After their beloved choirmaster, Bernard Sparrow (a cameo by Kris Kristofferson), suffers a fatal heart attack during the annual Joyful Noise showcase, members of the Pacashau Sacred Divinity Choir are stunned when Pastor Dale (Courtney B. Vance) appoints Vi Rose Hill (Queen Latifah) to succeed Bernie. Westport's Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County is offering a bereavement support group in February for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community who have lost life partners. Visiting Nurse said participants would have an opportunity to share their feelings in a safe environment and gain a deeper understanding of their experience of loss and begin the process of healing.

Westport Public Library will host a performance by Dan Stevens and the Fiery Band at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, in the library's McManus Room, 20 Jesup Road. The group will play acoustic and electric blues, early jazz, swing and country music news according to a library news release. The event is free.
