Living With Technology / Oblivious to some social networks

For my daughter, her social media life is taken up with two main social media sites:

With its expected $100 billion IPO coming up, it is clearly a social and financial success -- especially for those with pre-IPO shares of stock.

What I find interesting is how both Second Life and MySpace were once the "gotta go to" places that controlled significant heft, they are no longer quite as compelling, especially for the masses.

While Facebook will continue to dominate the social media space for a few years, one thing I've learned is that in technology, nothing is unchangeable.

A vintage horse barn at 34 Hyde Lane in the Hunt Club section of Westport might have met the wrecking ball were it not for the vision of a carpet and textile designer who recognized its possibilities and the architectural potential to marry past and present in one sophisticated space.

[...] it's someone else's turn to appreciate this minimalistic gem of a modern home, which features a wealth of amenities from its indoor climate-controlled squash court with cork floor to its radiant-heated floors in several rooms; from its English ivy-covered pergola to its heated outdoor bluestone patio; from its cavernous Provence-inspired gourmet kitchen to its second floor office with reception area.

The exterior center of the house is bisected by a metal silo, which houses the modern, circular interior staircase, which looks like an art installation, and the silo separates the old barn from the new wing.

On the western end of the living room is access to a three-room guest or au pair suite, which has a full bath and a separate entrance.

On the second floor, the master bedroom has its own fireplace and balcony, and the master bath has wood floors except for the ceramic tile area for the free-standing soaking tub.

AMENITIES: water community, beach rights, indoor squash court with cork flooring, walking distance to the Westport Hunt Club and Long Lots Elementary School, one-acre level property with room for an in-ground pool, radiant heated floors, gourmet kitchen, outdoor bluestone patio with two natural gas heaters, custom windows designed specifically for this house, balcony, hot tub, zoned central air conditioning, loft, three-room au pair or guest suite with separate entrance, skylights, exposed beams, security system, three fireplaces, Aquasana water filtration system, natural gas-powered back-up generator, electric gate, invisible dog fencing, professionally landscaped, sound system throughout the house

OTHER INFORMATION: six bedrooms, five full and one half baths, three-car attached under house garage, hardwood and concrete floors, two laundry rooms, mudroom, eight zoned forced air natural gas heating and cooling system, ceiling fans, exterior sprinkler system, walk-in pantry, shared driveway, septic system, city water
