The Staples indoor track program left Boston on Friday with three medals with its boys team winning two and its girls team taking home one.

Junior Raphael Ray played a role in both medals for the Wreckers. Ray took home a fifth place medal as an individual in the 600 meters with a time of 1:22.54.

"It feels good," Ray said. "I took it out hard and I went out with the pack. I tried to put myself in good position in the end."

Ray than anchored the 4x400 meter relay team to the bronze medal by running a 49.8 split. He was the most experienced runner on Staples' third-place team in which sophomore Jonathan Heil (52.9 split) led off and was followed by juniors Sean Gallagher (52.7) and Jack Roche (52.1). This relay was in the second fastest heat and won it by 10-meters.

"I told the guys we weren't going to come here and leave empty handed, so we gave it our all and came away with PRs [personal records]," Ray said.

Wreckers Coach Laddie Lawrence said, "I thought they all did great. Raphael ran a great tactical race in the 600 and had his best time by a second. I told the 4x400 if they all put together their best performance, they can run a 3:28 and they all had their best splits or came close to it."

Henry leads Lady Wreckers

Senior captain Joselyn Henry led the Lady Wreckers grabbed a sixth-place medal in the long jump (17-4) and was 10th in the shot put (36-1). The two events took place simultaneously, which made it challenging for her.

"I had trouble going back and forth between the shot put and long jump but I still did OK," Henry said. "It feels great to medal. I decided to go all out and I tried to put my mind into it because it was a championship meet and I wanted to end my high school career on a good note."

Staples also had a 4x800 meter relay team of senior captain Kylie Gould, junior Kristen Weiler, freshman Georgia Kursten and junior Emily Hanrahan, which finished 12th (9:54.73).
