The snow and ice storms that struck the area on Tuesday and Wednesday led to the postponement of many local games. The Staples girls basketball team was supposed to host Trumbull Tuesday and will now host Trumbull tomorrow (Thursday Feb. 3) at 7 p.m. and the Staples boys basketball team will play at Trumbull tomorrow at 7 p.m. instead of its originally-scheduled Tuesday game.

Also postponed and rescheduled from the storm was the Staples gymnastics team's meet at Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Lulowe, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, will now take place Saturday Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Trumbull YMCA, and the Weston girls basketball team will make up its game scheduled for Tuesday at Lauralton Hall on Saturday at 4:45 p.m.

While the three basketball games and gymnastics meet got rescheduled, a few athletic contests haven't been reslated yet. The Staples boys swimming team's home meet, which was scheduled for Wednesday against the Fairfield co-op team hasn't been rescheduled nor has the Staples wrestling team's home meet against Westhill and Bridgeport Central.

One positive for the athletic directors in their quest to reschule postponed games is that they now have the option of making up games on Sunday. The CIAC waived its no-Sunday rule for this year's winter season because of the many postponed games and the logjam of rescheduling them.
