Taking home a medal at the New England Indoor Track championships would create a sense of accomplishment for most athletes. Not for Weston boys indoor track senior captain Steve Piscatelli. Although Piscatelli took fourth place in the mile on Friday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston with a time of 4:20.94, he wasn't pleased with it.

"I wasn't feeling too good and I went out kind of slow," Piscatelli said. "I was hoping to run a 4:16, 4:17. I had a big kick in the end."

He hopes to do better at National Indoor Track championships this coming weekend in Boston where he will run the mile, the distance medley relay and the mile relay with senior captains James Bloom and Ryan Gilmore and junior Steven Vento.

"I'm excited for Nationals," Piscatelli said. "The key will be to rest this week and getting focused."

Bloom placed 12th in the 1,000 meters (2:35.96).

"I didn't do so well," Bloom said. "I put high expectations on myself because I train so hard. It just wasn't my day."

Trojan Coach Matt Medve agrees with their self-assessments and is confident they will bounce back at Nationals.

"I thought they had better races at State Open and they feel they could have done better," Medve said. "They just had off days."

Bloom will compete in the distance medley relay, mile relay and 800 meters at Nationals. He's especially gearing up for the mile relay.

"It will be difficult but we'll be focused as a team," Bloom said. "It will be an interesting event."

Senior Mike Figueroa took 17th place in the shot put (47-6.5).
