The Staples girls volleyball team defeated Trinity Catholic 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-10) at home on Wednesday. Staples started off strong during warm up and its energy carried throughout the game.

"I think that we did pretty well, we had an amazing warmup and everyone was hitting great," said Lady Wrecker junior Kenzie Roof.

Senior tri-captain Dana Rappaport played especially strong and received the game ball.

"Dana's serving and passing was really good," said Roof.

Playing her normally consistent game was senior tri-captain Alex Masiello pulled through with large hits, scoring a large amount of points for the team.

"Alex definitely had some sick hits, she played really well," said Roof.

In addition, the teamwork was especially strong.

"I think we really worked well together as a team. We were all covering for each other and making sure every ball was up," said Rappaport.

Although Staples played extremely strongly, there are always things to work on.

"There are always little things that can be improved. You can't always hit the best, there is always room for improvement," said junior Anna Link.

However, Link was extremely pleased with the team's ability to carry skills learned at practice into the game. "One of our focuses was running firsts, starting with a fast low set in the middle," she said. "When you run a quick and its good, it's exciting, the game moves faster and its great when what you've been working on turns out well."

As the season continues, the team hopes to "continue to play games at our level against every team and make it to the FCIAC and State finals," Rappaport said.
