Committing four errors cost the Staples baseball team Friday in a 3-2 loss in eight innings at Danbury.

Staples had a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning but Danbury, who raised its record to 10-3, 9-3 in the FCIAC tied it with an unearned run. The Wreckers dropped to 11-3, 10-3 and senior lefty ace Rob Gau deserved a better fate. Gau struck out nine and allowed only four hits in seven innings of work.

Staples senior Mikey Scott had two hits, four stolen bases and an RBI in the fifth inning. After falling behind in the first, the Wreckers scored two in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. Senior quad-captain Brendan Bernstein delivered an RBI double for Staples.

Also getting hits for the Wreckers were senior quad-captain Tyler Jacobs, who banged a triple, and classmate Chris Lametta. Jacobs and senior quad-captain Ben Lipper had stolen bases.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Hatters scored an unearned run against sophomore righty Bryan Terzian, who dropped to 2-1.
