The Henderson Cultural Center at Hunt Hill Farm in New Milford will present a weekend of cultural events Wednesday to Aug. 15.

The first program will be a book binding for beginners workshop using Japanese "stab binding" with artist Cecilia Marshall, on Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This one-day workshop costs $100, which includes materials provided by the instructor, but participants can bring any decorative paper they would like to use. Working with binders, cloth and board, and a wide variety of beautiful paper, each participant will make one to two blank journals or sketchbooks.

Marshall is a mixed-media artist and an art faculty member at Indian Mountain School in Lakeville. She recently displayed her Book Art series at Hunt Hill Farm's Silo Gallery during the Summer Art Exhibition. Marshall also offers workshops at the Westport and Hartford libraries.

An energetic Greek and Turkish-inspired drumming and rhythm circle with Randy Brody, founder of Sound Directions in Weston, will take place Aug. 15 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. You don't need to know how to drum to attend the circle, but belly dancing is encouraged. Bring your own drum or a percussion instrument will be provided.

Brody is a professional music educator, drum circle facilitator, therapeutic drummer, and an accomplished drummer and percussionist. Since 1991, Brody has facilitated drumming programs to build community, encourage creativity, release stress, enhance wellness, and allow participants of all abilities to have fun in the process. Space is limited and reservations are required. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The drumming program fee is $15.

Also Aug. 15, teens 12 to 17 can participate in an international culinary Greek cooking class taught by chef Rea Varveris, a native of Cyprus, from noon to 5 p.m. (This includes attending the drumming circle.) The teen cooking class with the drumming circle is $75.

Registration is required, with program fees for all three events, which are being held at the farm, 44 Upland Road. While there, visitors can also view the Silo Gallery's latest still life juried exhibition and take a self-guided tour of the historic farmland and buildings. The Silo Store is another attraction, featuring a unique variety of pottery, gifts, cooking supplies and gourmet food items.

The life of Hunt Hill Farm's beloved maestro, Skitch Henderson, is celebrated in an intimate museum there, which is dedicated to Henderson. Drawing on the creative legacy of Skitch and Ruth Henderson, the Henderson Cultural Center at Hunt Hill Farm, which is associated with the Smithsonian Institution, is a vibrant regional resource, offering the opportunity to explore music, art, cuisine, and permanently protected historic open space.

Reservations for all events can be made online or call by calling 860-355-0300. Hunt Hill Farm hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
