BRIDGEPORT ---- Four people are homeless this morning after a fire ripped through the basement of a home last night on the city's West End.

The blaze, at 174 Laurel Ave., also damaged the home's first floor, officials said.

The fire was called in at about 9:30 p.m. Engine companies 1, 3, 4 and 7 responded, along with ladder companies 5 and 11. The blaze was quickly brought under control.

No one was reported injured. The Red Cross assisted in finding the occupants temporary housing.
